Joyce Scott Greenway, 80

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Joyce Scott Greenway, age 80, of Swainsboro, on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Emanuel County Nursing Home. Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 18, at 11 a.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Elder Jim Bowen officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors. Burial was held in the Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Twin City.

Pallbearers were Lane Vanhorn, Lance Headrick, Gavin Hood, Mike Boyd, Darrell Rountree and Kelvin Turner. Honorary pallbearers were employees of Emanuel County Nursing Home and Pruitt Health Hospice.

Mrs. Greenway was born in Swainsboro to the late John Ernest and Myrtle Rountree Scott. She was a graduate of Emanuel County Institute and was a seamstress for most of her working years. In addition to Savannah Luggage, Joyce also worked at Twin City Manufacturing. She enjoyed sewing and often made her own clothing. Joyce also enjoyed reading, cooking and collecting recipes. She was an avid gardener and took pride in her flower beds with her wonderful daylilies and iris. Joyce would share pieces of her plants with friends, family and neighbors. She loved talking about the days of the past, her years growing up and reminiscing of how things used to be. Mrs. Greenway is preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Ronnie Scott and Rayburn “Sonny” Scott.

Survivors include her nephews, Nicky Scott of Twin City, Kelvin Scott (Pam) of Swainsboro and Keith Scott (Marie) of Statesboro; nieces, Charlotte S. Chavis of Twin City, Michelle Todd (Jack) of Pembroke and Jennifer Settles (Michael) of Eden; special lifelong friends, Betty Rigdon and Pat Rountree; and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
