John A. Bennett, age 72, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2026, at his home in Treutlen County. A Memorial Service for close friends and family will be held Saturday, April 11, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Higgs Funeral Home in Soperton. The family will begin receiving friends at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

John was born September 2, 1953, in Savannah, to the late Margie and Paul Mincey, and was adopted as a child by the late James and Johnny Bennett of Twin City. He graduated from Emanuel County Institute after which he was drafted into the United States Army. After John’s military service, he settled down in Twin City and had a career as a millwright for Carpenter and Millwright Local 283 of Augusta. He retired after 27 years of service. Mr. Bennett is preceded in death by his two brothers, Alford Mincey and Bobby Bradham.

Mr. Bennett is survived by his longtime partner, Kathy Ussery of Soperton; former wife and friend, Sylvia Sconyers; two children, Matthew (Angelia) Bennett and Michelle (Justin) Edenfield, all of Twin City; three grandchildren, William Bennett, Margie Bennett and Seth Edenfield; brother, Larry Bowling of Arizona; three sisters, Letha (James) Hall of Canoochee, Cynthia (Skip) Hayes of Atlanta and Diane (Bob) Tanner of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Higgs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
