The George L. Smith room at Franklin Memorial Library was the gathering place for approximately thirty members and guests to celebrate the fiftieth year of the club’s existence. The room was appropriately decorated with book themed tablecloths.

Renae McNeely treated members and guests to a history of the club which included a list of the original members in 1975, and the fact that over 250 members have participated during the years following. The group has collectively read over four hundred novels covering all genres.

Angela McClellan provided other interesting information that she complied into a booklet for the membership. Additionally, Melany Bowen asked for help in finding pictures for a pictorial directory of the original founders of the club.

Refreshments were served, and all participants were given a sack with several bookmarks and given an opportunity to choose a book in a book swap as they left.

The Ida Belle Williams Boo0k Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month at twelve in the George L. Smith room of the library. Anyone interested in reading and lively discussions of the books is welcome to join. The next meeting is November 18, and the book to be discussed is The Fall of Marigolds by Susan Meissner.
