As life gets busy and we are focused on everyday living, what is our availability to share and help or encourage others. Life is really challenging right now for most of us. It seems that it takes everything within us to keep going for ourselves and our families. But, what about situations which are more challenging than yours? It's time to observe others around you and take note. Someone needs your help. Someone needs to be encouraged.
Well, you may ask, “what is my responsibility to others and how can I help?” I am reminded of an answer that Cain gave in the book of Genesis after he killed his brother Abel. He asked God, “Am I my brother's keeper”. It seems that is how the world has become. But you are called to be different. You are called to care; you are called to serve. The answer is yes, “you are your brother's keep”.
In Matthew 25:31-45, Jesus explains it on the day of Judgment when separation comes. He is going to separate the sheep from the goats. Sheep will be on the right hand and will be with Him forever. Jesus said, “I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me drink, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me, naked and you clothed me, I was a stranger and you took me in. They wanted to know when they saw Jesus like that. He went on to say, “Whatever you done to the least of these my brethren, you done it also to me.”
So don't be fooled by seeing someone in trouble or less fortunate than you. Your response to the situation is going to be used as criteria for Jesus's judgment for you. Yes, you are your brother's keeper. Take time and make yourself available to God by making yourself available to others.
