Holy Cow

Local cattle farmer Jerry Caraway recently shared with The Blade that one of his cows recently gave birth to twin calves, born two days apart. What is so special about this? It’s actually very rare that this happens.

In fact, David Rustebakke, an experienced Clarkston veterinarian, said regular twins occur in about 1 percent to 4 percent of cattle births, depending on the breed. In some breeds, the percentage is even less than 1 percent, he said. But having the births occur separately on different days is even more unusual.
