The Emanuel County Board of Education met on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Office with the following members in attendance: John Allen Bailey, Del Brown, Cherie Hooks, Tanya Lane, Johnny Parker, and Sandra Swinney. Superintendent Scotty Hattaway welcomed everyone calling the meeting to order and facilitated the election of a new Board Chair to replace Mason Henry. Mr. Del Brown was elected board chair for the remainder of the vacated 2-year term. Scotty Hattaway delivered the invocation followed by Del Brown leading the Pledge of Allegiance. The agenda was approved as presented.
Superintendent, Scotty Hattaway, gave the following start of school updates:
•Preplanning begins on July 25-31.
•Open House is Thursday, July 27.
•The countywide Kickoff will be on Friday, July 28 at the SHS auditorium at 8:30 a.m. Mr. Ronnie Shumake will be hosting the 20th annual back to school drive for student supplies on Saturday, July 29.
•The first day of school is on August 1, 2023.
•New teacher orientation will be held on July 20 and July 24.
•The Sheriff’s department will setup rotations for Sheriff Deputies to stop by the schools that do not have SRO’s (TCE, SPS and SES) during drop-off and pick-up times.
