Independence Day, or the 4th of July, commemorates the Continental Congress's adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, announcing the 13 colonies' separation from Great Britain. This year, the 250th year of the USA will be celebrated on Saturday.
Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades and barbeques, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government and traditions of the United States, and is the national day of the United States.
The 5th Annual Freedom Fest will be Saturday, July 4 at the Boneyard in Downtown Swainsboro, including food trucks, arts and crafts, live music, water parade and fireworks.
