The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting Tuesday night, August 4, at the Franklin Memorial Library at 6:30 p.m. With President Dianna Wedincamp presiding, they had 12 in attendance. Dess Smith won the key lime cake, Jim Wedincamp won a Domino's pizza, and Tim Goodman won the honey cutting board and honey.
During the Art Bash, the winner of the poetry contest was announced, Breana Guest. Guest read her winning poem, and the Kiwanis Club provided the $200 prize for the contest.
Dianna gave a report on the August 1 Emanuel Arts Council Back-to-School Art Bash in conjunction with the Swainsboro Touch-A-Truck Bash. The Kiwanis Club cooked popcorn, did face painting, handed out school supplies and bought pizza for attendees. Legos, sidewalk chalk, and art supplies were made available for kids to exercise their artistic talents. With the help of local artists Barry Belcher and Amber Albritton, a Little Free Library was painted and will be placed at Crossing Green.
Dianna Wedincamp announced plans for a new fundraiser in the fall. The gun raffle was dropped, and they added a triple-prize raffle. They will be raffling a box-type deer stand, a gift certificate to Bass Pro Shops, and a gift certificate to Leannas. The cost will be $20 for a ticket.
