The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting Tuesday night, May 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the Franklin Memorial Library. With President Dianna Wedincamp presiding, we had 14 in attendance, including guests Governor Barry Gardner, 1st Lady Gloria Gardner, Former Governor Byron Mullican, Shakera Lewis and Destiny Wilcher. Cheryl Goodman won the cheesecake, and a number of people won plants and other prizes in the drawing. Governor Barry updated us on his year and his “KIDS” platform, “KIWANIS IS DOING SOMETHING” for kids. He noted it was getting close to the end of his Kiwanis year, and clubs should be working on membership growth. We need to work on bringing in more, and younger, members to do service for kids. Governor Barry appreciates getting copies of our bulletins and applauded the way we get our stories in the local newspaper. A growth in membership is the key to continuing our work. He talked about their summer trip to the Kiwanis International Convention in Manila. Governor Barry looks forward to supporting Georgian George Elkins for International Trustee and for sampling more “sticky rice” desserts. More than 20 Kiwanians from Georgia will be attending the Kiwanis International Convention in Manila.

Dianna gave a Kiwanian-of-the-Year couple award to Paul Cerpovicz and Joelle Romanchik-Cerpovicz for their work with the Little Free Libraries (LFL) and the Youth Gardening booth at the Pine Tree Festival. They are known for LFLs and honey. Governor Barry presented a Governor’s Leadership Medallion to Joelle Romanchik-Cerpovicz. Circle K’er Destiny Wilcher was presented a scholarship check for her work this past year. Presenting her the check was EGSC Circle K Faculty Advisor David Gribbin.

Deana Patrick and Windy Ward summarized the Franklin Memorial Library summer reading activities. We will have a cookout for the participants at the end of the summer with around 100 participants expected. Dianna thanked the library staff for their help this year and indicated that the fire hydrant painting would begin soon.
