The Glade Garden Club received a warm welcome back to the Sudie A. Fulford Community Learning Center by Harley Smith, president of institutional advancement and marketing relations, and her fabulous staff on January 10, while holding the club’s regular meeting. The meeting was called to order by JoAnn Trammell, president, who reported the success of many of the club’s endeavors throughout the holidays.

“So many folks expressed appreciation for our Christmas decorations at the Emanuel County Hospital, that it seemed a shame to take them down. But next year will bring more new decorations with the much-appreciated anonymous financial donation to the club. Thank you again Kimberly Lewis for all your advice and direction. With sweet memories and love, RIP Clay Cumbee,” President Trammell stated.

It was then announced that Christmas stockings were distributed to local nursing homes as normal on a rotating basis. This year, Church Street Manor and Retirement Inn were recipients of the club’s humble little offering which residents seem to really enjoy. The stockings spark lots of conversation about the “good old days” as residents reminisce about Christmases long ago. Then, the club’s annual trip to the Sunshine House, a child advocacy center devoted to children and families that are affected by abuse, took place to present the club’s financial donation that is deemed to be always rewarding. A short tour by staff was appreciated by club members. Their next event was to McKinney’s Pond for an enjoyable Christmas Party with members and family and a jolly time was reported to be had by all.

After a regular business meeting to discuss upcoming club events and fundraiser, a captivating program was presented by Gloria Mason, club member. Mason placed a variety of flower arrangements on antique tablecloths and proceeded to give the history of many of the miniature bottles in her collection along with a few small vases of milk glass. Each little bottle from the 1800s was self-labeled in glass such as Chamberlain’s Colic and Diarrhea Remedy and Bromo-Seltzer Emerson Drug Co. Baltimore, MD. Each little vessel had a mini-flower arrangement and larger vessels contained stunning pink Camelias grown from Mason’s own garden. After her presentation, every member was offered a choice of vessels to take home. What a precious gift.

All members were reminded of the Garden Club of Georgia Annual Meeting/Convention in Macon, April 12 through April 13 prior to adjournment.
