Georgia Southern’s East Georgia Campus Fulford Center to host Family Astronomy Night

Georgia Southern University's East Georgia Campus will host Family Astronomy Night Oct. 15 to encourage families to explore something together and create an opportunity for extended conversations and shared discovery. The event, free and open to the public, will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sudie A. Fulford Community Learning Center in partnership with Georgia Youth Science and Technology Center.

"Astronomy encourages curiosity and gets people asking questions," explained Ron Jones, Fulford Center coordinator. "It's a chance to experience something you don't get to do every day. There's something pretty special about looking up at the night sky and realizing just how much there is to explore."

This year, there will be telescopes for stargazing with astronomy consultant Tom Faller, as well as planetarium shows, activities involving the NASA Moon Tree and more.

Jones is looking forward to seeing how many will show up, especially since more than 100 people joined last year. Jones says families frequently tell him how much they enjoy having a local, educational event that gets their kids excited about science.

"That's really what the Fulford Learning Center is about - creating opportunities for people in our community to come together, learn something new and have a positive experience," Jones said.
