Georgia Southern Golden Eagles Athletics has announced the hiring of Jonathan Clasen as the department's new compliance director. Clasen's role will focus on student-athlete academic eligibility and event management for the Golden Eagles.
Clasen began his college coaching career as a volunteer assistant men’s basketball coach in the fall of 2008 at Hope International University (HIU) in Fullerton, California, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 2006. While coaching at HIU, Clasen earned his master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine in 2011.
Clasen eventually worked his way up to a part-time assistant coach, and later to a full-time assistant coach and compliance officer within the HIU athletics department. During his tenure, the HIU men’s basketball program enjoyed its most successful run in the 2014-15 season, winning the regular-season title and the conference tournament before advancing to the Fab Four in the NAIA National Tournament.
Following the 2019-20 season, Clasen decided to shift his focus entirely to athletic compliance and event management. The 2026-27 academic year marks his 14th season working in NAIA compliance and event administration.
“I am excited for the opportunity to move my family to Georgia this summer and be a part of the first-ever NAIA season for Georgia Southern University East Georgia Campus,” said Clasen. “I look forward to working with the coaches and athletes to keep everyone on track with NAIA eligibility and produce athletic events that create a big college feel for a small college community.”
