Georgia Power to hold meeting today concerning proposed new high voltage line

Posted

If you've been hearing folks talk about new transmission lines, data centers, cryptocurrency mines, or have received a letter from Georgia Power in your mailbox, here's something you need to know about: Georgia Power has begun mailing notices to property owners whose land may be affected by the proposed new 75-mile Hatch–Wadley 500 kV Transmission Line Project. While those notices are going to potentially impact property owners, the meeting is open to everyone, whether you received a letter or not.

Here's what you need to know:

It'll happen Wednesday, July 15, 2026

There will be two sessions, so you can pick the one that works for your schedule:

• 3:30 to 5 p.m. OR • 6 to 7:30 p.m.

It'll be at The Nordson Center, located at210 West Moring Street, Swainsboro

According to Georgia Power, attendees will have the opportunity to visit information stations, speak one-on-one with project representatives, and learn more about:

Why the project is being proposed, preliminary transmission line routing, the type of infrastructure involved, environmental considerations, land acquisition and construction and project planning.

This meeting is being organized and hosted by Georgia Power, not the Emanuel County Board of Commissioners.

Out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of transparency and legal compliance, some commissioners may choose to attend this public meeting. Because a quorum of the board could be present, this post also serves as public notice. No county business will be discussed, and no official action will be taken by the commission.

As a courtesy to our residents and because we've seen a significant increase in community conversations surrounding this project and related topics, the Emanuel County Board of Commissioners wanted to help spread the word. Your Emanuel County Board of Commissioners, in keeping with its longstanding encouragement of an educated, engaged, and informed public, encourages you to attend. Whether you're directly affected, simply curious, or just want to better understand what's being proposed, we hope you'll take advantage of this opportunity to hear directly from Georgia Power.

Re: Hatch–Wadley Primary 500 kV Transmission Line Project Overview Meeting

Dear Resident:

Georgia Power invites you to attend a project overview meeting to learn more about the proposed Hatch–Wadley Primary 500 kV Transmission Line Project. You are receiving this invitation because you own property that may be affected by the project.

As part of Georgia Power's ongoing work to invest in and strengthen the state's transmission system, this project includes construction of an approximate 75-mile transmission line connecting Plant Hatch in Appling County to the Wadley Primary Substation in Jefferson County, crossing Toombs and Emanuel counties. The project is part of Georgia Power's long-term planning process and is designed to support a reliable and resilient energy grid for the region.

Attendees are invited to visit various information stations where you can learn more about the project and speak one-on-one with representatives from project management, environmental affairs, land acquisition, line design, and construction. Information will be shared on the need for the project, the type of infrastructure involved, the preliminary transmission line routing, and more.
