Tomlinson Funeral Home & Crematory announces the death of Mr. George H. Ratchford, Sr. age 93, of Wadley, on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Keysville Nursing Home in Keysville. Funeral services were held Friday, September 15, at 11 a.m. in the Wadley Baptist Church with Rev. David Brown, Rev. Tom Harrison, and George H. Ratchford, III officiating. Interment followed in the Coleman Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors. The family received friends Thursday, September 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wadley Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of Wadley Baptist Church.
Mr. Ratchford was born in Atlanta to the late George H. and Lois Ferris Ratchford. He graduated from Druid Hills High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Ratchford was a member of the Wadley Baptist church. He owned and operated the Ratchford Trucking Company. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ratchford is preceded in death by his wife, Janice Meadows Ratchford.
Survivors include his son, George Ratchford, Jr. (Kay) of Wadley; daughter, Donna Dollar (Bobby) of Wadley; grandchildren, Rachel Ratchford (Mel), George Ratchford, III (Lyndsey), Thomas Ratchford (Breanne), and Jennifer Dixon (Jason); great-grandchildren, Thea Ratchford, Jacob Dixon, Daniel Dixon, Levi Dixon, Samuel Dixon, Will Kirk and Lexi Kirk.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wadley Baptist Church and to the Gideon’s.
