A graveside service for George Frank Kirkland Sr., 75 of Summertown, was held Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at Summertown United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Lamar Kersey officiating. The family received friends Thursday, July 2, 2020 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Chapman Funeral Home. The family received friends after the service at Summertown Community Center. In compliance with the guidelines set by the CDC, the 6’ rule was enforced during the viewing and service. He passed away Monday, June 29, 2020 at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. George Frank Kirkland Sr. was born June 12, 1945 in Emanuel County to the late Jessie Benjamin Kirkland and Jane Ellen Moxley Kirkland. He loved farming, fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was of the Baptist faith. Kirkland was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandra Hale Kirkland; brothers, Jake Kirkland, Ben Kirkland, and Gene Kirkland; and sister, Janie Butler.
Survivors include his sons, George (Donna) Kirkland of Midville, Dennis (Meisha) Kirkland of Summertown, and Thomas (Ashley) Kirkland of Statesboro; daughter, Denise Kirkland Wheeler of Summertown; brother, Bill Kirkland of Midville; sisters, Pearl Burch of Edgeville, South Carolina, Nellie (Bill) Beasley of Augusta, Lena Wood of Augusta, and Martha (Jerry) Register of North Augusta, South Carolina; grandchildren, Morgan, Denny, Cassy, and Cane; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Pallbearers were Denny Lyn, Wyatt Johnson, Windy Underwood, Jimmy Atkins, Chesley Flanders, and Jim Sherrod. Honorary pallbearers were Sammy Brown, Gordon Welch, Charles Page, Don Farrow, Tommy Simpson, and Tommy Robinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
