From farm to school

During the week of September 26, Family Connection partnered with the STEAM teacher, Susan Stephenson to teach the 3rd graders at SES about apples. Planting, growing, and harvesting education was provided. The very best part of the class was the preparing and taste testing a variety of apples and an apple recipe. Apples were supplied by the Farm to School program and students tasted red delicious, golden delicious, and granny smith apples. Tammy Allen and Pam Carr from Family Connection instructed the students on safe peeling and cutting methods. They also assisted the students in making cheddar grilled cheese sandwiches with sliced granny smith apples. The students enjoyed the tasty sandwiches and said that they wanted to make them at home.
