East Georgia State College (EGSC) recently named Malanie Freeman the new Sudie A. Fulford Community Learning Center Coordinator. Freeman will oversee the day-to-day operations of the center and organize the programming the Fulford Center will offer.
Freeman received an associate degree from EGSC in 2016 and continued her education at Georgia Southern University obtaining her Bachelor of Science degree in child and family development. In 2020, Freeman graduated from the University of Georgia with a Master of Social Work degree.
Freeman is no stranger to the Fulford Center. During her time at EGSC, she was a student worker at the Fulford Center. She assisted with hosting field trip groups and community organizations. She also helped schedule planetarium shows and summer camp experiences.
While receiving her bachelor’s degree at Georgia Southern University, Freeman was an intern at the UGA Extension Office. She assisted the site supervisor with providing effective, research-based programming for the community and performed the general administrative duties of the office. After receiving her master’s degree, Freeman became a social worker at Pruitt Health Hospice in Swainsboro, Ga.
“We are so excited to have Malanie back at the Fulford Center! Her previous knowledge of the center and her bubbly personality makes her the perfect fit for this position. I am looking forward to the wonderful things she will do at the center,” said Harley Smith, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at EGSC.
About the Sudie A. Fulford Community Learning Center:
Situated among towering pines near the main entrance of East Georgia State College, the Sudie A. Fulford Community Learning Center (The Fulford Center) opened as a unique educational resource for Emanuel County and surrounding communities on May 1, 2010.
Funding for the facility’s construction was made possible through a generous donation to the East Georgia State College Foundation from Mr. and Mrs. A. D. "Pete" Correll in remembrance of Mrs. Correll’s mother, Sudie A. Fulford. Mrs. Fulford was a highly respected Emanuel County teacher and community volunteer whose educational legacy will continue through the Fulford Center’s outreach efforts.
Within the span of its relatively brief existence, the Fulford Center has provided many educational programs and services. It is central to the vision that the Fulford Center serves as an educational and cultural hub to the surrounding area, filled with planetarium shows, workshops, exhibitions, classes, and performances for people of all ages. To date, many lives have been enriched by the opportunities at the Center.
