Free love

Have you ever wanted to help someone but felt you did not have the resources? It's not a good feeling to know someone is in distress and you cannot accommodate them. So now it is different, if you have something and do not come to help.

John the Apostle was known as the apostle of love. He writes in I John 5:17, “But who so hath this world's good, and sees his brother have a need, and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwells the love of God in him? Now especially to the Christian world, he is referring to us.

You might know by now, I am from the “old school”. When we were children, it was on a Tuesday night. It was cold. My parents were at Bible study. Our neighbor came to our home to get some firewood. He thought his family was too good to work. So, this was our opportunity to tell them NO. When my parents got home, we were excited to tell them what had happened.

Here were our parents, Lee and Annel's response. “There is an old lady living in that house. We don't want her to be cold. Get up out of bed, go to the wood pile, load the truck and carry wood to that house.” As kids, we are floored. But as we matured, we realized without owning possessions, that we were rich because my parents always gave, “free love”.

So today, the world would be much better if the Christians would give ”free love”. You have been given love freely. It didn't cost you anything. God gave his love freely by giving his Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus gave us his love freely, although it cost his life. Now everyone has love to give. You got free love; will you give it freely?

Start with a smile, start with a friendly greeting. You can also start by just lending a helping hand. John 3:16. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
