On January 31, at approximately 6 p.m., deputies were dispatched to Emanuel Medical Center Emergency Room in response to reports of a 5-year-old child who had been struck and seriously injured by a truck on Outler Circle in north Emanuel County. The child was sent to an Augusta Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the truck, Joshua Walker Purvis of Kite, fled the scene and was apprehended the following morning on Keith Screws Road in Emanuel County by Emanuel County Deputies. Purvis is being charged with serious injury by vehicle due to the fact that he left the scene. As of press time, the child is in stable condition and re-covering well, in good spirits and is up walking around.
