Fire at Twin City Solar Farm

Posted

On Wednesday afternoon, May 26, 9-1-1 received numerous reports of a fire at the solar farm located on Highway 80 East inside Twin City. A Twin City police officer reported smoke coming from a control box and a rapidly spreading grass fire under the solar arrays. Firefighters from Swainsboro and Twin City responded to the call. Due to the panels generating electricity, water cannot be applied to the units due to a shock hazard. Units were posted along the fence line and extinguished the fire along the fence. Georgia Forestry Commission responded and cut a fire lane around the perimeter of the facility. The extent of the damage is unknown.
