The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the First Methodist Church in Swainsboro on Monday, June 12, at 9:15 a.m. due to the renovations that the library is having done on the George L Smith III room. The newest veteran that attended the Monday morning breakfast service is Charles D Bolden. He is retired from the U.S. Air Force and served from 1971 to 1991. During his service, he was stationed in Spain, Turkey, and Japan. His highest rank was E-6. He currently lives in Texas. Chair Johnny Tapley called on Rev. James Mason to open the meeting with prayer. After a enjoying breakfast casserole, donuts, muffins and watermelon, Rev. Emory Fennell led us in the Pledge to the U.S. Flag. Veteran Fennell then presented his program about the arrowhead's, spearheads, and knife collection that he has been collecting for the past 40 years. He also had a collection of roadkill skins, and paintings. Fennell was also assisted by Survivalist Steve Burke. After the program, Chair Tapley discussed two graves in the City Cemetery that had fallen in. He reported that the Veterans group is trying to locate the families of these graves that are over 100 years old. Rev. Willie Bush reminded all the veterans that there will be a "Flag Day" event this Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Swainsboro downtown square beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Flag Day event is being sponsored by the American Legion and the Sons of the American Legion. The Veterans hope that all can attend.
