Emanuel Retired Educators begin new year

The Emanuel Retired Educators Association held its first meeting for 2023-24 in the Swainsboro High School Media Center on Wednesday September 20, at noon with twenty-two members present. President Judy Hendrix called the meeting to order. Swainsboro High School Principal Brandon Andrews provided a welcome from the school and thanked members for their many years of service to Emanuel County Schools. He invited members to visit the school at any time.

The tables in the Media Center were decorated with beautiful fall decorations. Superintendent Scotty Hattaway provided an invocation, and members enjoyed a delicious meal prepared and served by SHS Future Farmers of America members Caleb Long, Lexsy Brown, Kaderiyounna Simmons and Gracie Stapleton. Faith Patrick serves as the FFA Advisor.

President Hendrix then introduced Superintendent of Emanuel County Schools Scotty Hattaway who provided a comprehensive view of the Emanuel County School District and the many activities taking place. He also spoke about the READ UNITED program at Swainsboro Primary School. He thanked members who are volunteering for the program which is a collaborative community effort to help improve third grade reading proficiency.

President Hendrix reviewed the EREA Handbook, and members voted to continue to support The Sunshine House Children’s Advocacy Center and other community agencies during the year as part of their service projects. The group will also particpate in the Georgia Retired Teacher Association President's project, Toys for Tots.

EREA wishes to thank Swainsboro High staff and students for the warm hospitality they extended for their first meeting fo the year. The next EREA meeting is set for Wednesday, October 18, at Swainsboro Primary School at noon. Theresa Davis will share information about the CHOICE Program at East Georgia State College.
