Emanuel Medical Center is best known as the place local families turn to for care, but new figures show the hospital is also one of Emanuel County’s most important economic engines.

According to the latest economic impact data from the Georgia Hospital Association, EMC generated an estimated $130.8 million in economic activity across Georgia, including nearly $101 million in Emanuel County. Through its own workforce and the local businesses it supports, the hospital helps sustain more than 500 jobs in the community.

“These numbers show just how important a strong local hospital is to the health and vitality of a community,” said EMC CEO Damien Scott. “We provide essential care close to home, but our impact reaches well beyond the hospital walls. We are also an employer, a customer of local businesses, and a significant contributor to the local economy.”

As one of Emanuel County’s largest employers, EMC provides careers in nursing, emergency medical services, administration, facilities, food service and many other fields. That economic impact extends even further as the hospital and its employees purchase goods and services from businesses throughout the region.

EMC’s contribution to the community also extends beyond its economic impact. Each year, the hospital provides nearly $5 million in uncompensated care to patients in need.

EMC offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including a Level IV Trauma Center emergency department, medical-surgical unit, intensive care unit, senior behavioral health unit, surgery, radiology, respiratory care, infusions, and therapy services. EMC also operates Emanuel County Nursing Home and six primary and specialty clinics: Emanuel Medical Prompt Care, Emanuel Physician Associates, Emanuel Wound Care Clinic, Porter Medical Clinic, Swainsboro Internal Medicine and Twin City Family Medical Clinic.

Together, these services allow more residents to receive the care they need close to home while supporting jobs, families and businesses throughout Emanuel County.

“Strong healthcare close to home improves quality of life, helps attract and retain businesses and families, and supports hundreds of local jobs,” Scott said. “Emanuel Medical Center is deeply connected to this community, and these figures show that investing in local healthcare is also an investment in Emanuel County’s future.”
