Emanuel County Schools is expanding healthcare access for students and staff through its partnership with East Georgia Healthcare (EGHC), offering school-based services at multiple district locations.
Emanuel County Institute (ECI) and EGHC are excited to announce the addition of a full-service school-based health center located inside ECI’s school building. EGHC has offered school-based health care at ECI for the past three years on a medical mobile unit, but the new office provides a more comprehensive medical experience for students and staff. Staffed by Brandon Johnson, FNP, Calli Drake, LPN, and Elizabeth Kraus, LPC, the clinic is open Wednesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. for appointments and walk-ins.
Services include well and sick visits, sports physicals, immunizations, laboratory and diagnostic testing, chronic care management, and medication management. Behavioral health counseling services are available at the ECI on Thursdays.
In addition to the ECI location, students and staff at Twin City Elementary have access to East Georgia Healthcare’s mobile clinic on Mondays and Tuesdays, serving families in the Twin City community.
Johnson emphasized that on-campus healthcare makes a significant difference for students and families, especially in rural areas. “Having healthcare available where our students already are helps remove barriers such as transportation and time away from school,” Johnson said. “It allows students to receive many of the services they need with less disruption to their school day, which can help reduce absences for both students and staff. As someone who lives and works in this community, being able to care for the students, staff, and families of Emanuel County Schools is especially meaningful to me.”
Students are seen only with parent or guardian consent, ensuring families maintain control over their children’s healthcare. Once enrolled, parents may attend appointments but are not required to be present for every visit.
By bringing healthcare services directly to its campuses, Emanuel County Schools reduces barriers to care, supports student attendance and wellness, and fosters academic success. This expansion demonstrates the district’s ongoing commitment to student health and readiness to learn.
