Emanuel County Institute held its annual Career Day on Wednesday, May 13. Students explored careers, heard from local professionals, and built practical life skills for the future.
The day began as students rotated through four classroom presentations. Professionals from public service, healthcare, education, agriculture, skilled trades, engineering, business, and finance led each session. They shared information about their careers, daily responsibilities, and the paths that led them to their professions.
After the classroom sessions, students gathered in the auditorium for a panel discussion. Local leaders from business, education, industry, banking, and college admissions participated. Panelists encouraged students to take advantage of opportunities such as Work-Based Learning, Dual Enrollment, and the EDGE College and Career Academy. They also stressed communication, professionalism, and the importance of exploring careers during high school.
Next, students participated in a career exploration activity focused on researching careers of interest and reflecting on future goals.
The event concluded with life skills sessions led by teachers. Topics included money management, interview skills, digital communication, professional etiquette, auto care, and daily living routines.
Students responded positively to the event. Alyssa Barnes shared that her favorite part was “seeing everyone enjoy what they do,” while Chanlee Youmans said she enjoyed “listening to the people who came to inspire us.”
Overall, Career Day gave students insight into future career pathways. It also reinforced the importance of communication, professionalism, and lifelong learning.
