Owned by the County and governed by the Emanuel County Hospital Authority, Emanuel Medical Center (EMC) employs over 420 people and operates as a not-for-profit facility whose operations are completely funded by revenues generated through patient services. The Authority is comprised of eight citizens of Emanuel County plus the current Chief of Medical Staff. Emanuel Medical Center is fully accredited by the DNV-GL. This means that they voluntarily submit to extensive evaluations of their compliance with specific hospital standards on a continuing basis.
Emanuel Medical Center has been in operation since 1952 and currently consists of a hospital, nursing home, and clinics. EMC provides families in the Emanuel County area and surrounding communities with quality care, and close to home. They are dedicated to delivering quality advanced medical attention in a respectful and caring environment. The medical center is equipped with 18 patient rooms, all of which are private and furnished with full bathrooms, telephones, Wi-Fi and televisions, 8 Critical Care rooms, 15 Senior Behavioral Health private rooms, and 49 nursing home beds. The healthcare team consists of approximately 450 employees and over 40 physicians representing a wide range of specialties. Emanuel Medical Center offers a 24-hour physician-staffed emergency department, outpatient services including same-day surgery and ambulatory care, a nursing home facility, a Senior Behavioral Health Unit, a critical care unit, and an imaging department including nuclear medicine, MRI, CT, and scans.
