Ella Norma Mays, age 96, of Riverdale, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, October 16, 2023, at home with her son, Robert, and care giver and daughter-in-law Tracie Pope with her. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 21, at 2 p.m. at St. Philip Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the family cemetery plot.
Mrs. Mays is the daughter of the late Professor N.F. Williams and Arsula McLeod of Swainsboro.
Ella resided in Lee County with her husband Robert on the family farm where their son, Robert Nathan Mays, grew up. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Mays moved to Riverdale where she resided with her son Robert. She was a graduate of Tuskegee Institute and a retired educator. Ella taught elementary grades at schools in South Carolina, Emanuel County, and Sumter County.
Mrs. Mays is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Mays; brothers, Pleasant and Newell; and sister Maurice Williams Heard.
