Mrs. Elizabeth DeVane, a current member of the Emanuel County Board of Education has announced plans to seek reelection as District 5 representative in the upcoming election.
An Emanuel County resident since 2012, the candidate said a strong connection to the local school system has come through both professional experience and family involvement. Mrs. DeVane has two children enrolled in Emanuel County Schools, with Katherine attending Swainsboro Elementary School and Connor attending Swainsboro Middle School.
The family is active in extracurricular activities and school events.
“There’s no place we would rather be than at Tiger Field on a Friday night,” the candidate said.
The District 5 representative said Emanuel County Schools continue to provide opportunities for students and families to grow, stay involved and find success.
During the current term on the board, Mrs. DeVane highlighted several accomplishments, including expanded professional development in teacher literacy, the establishment of the EDGE College and Career Academy, faculty and staff raises, strengthened campus security, and additions and updates to athletic facilities and school properties.
“As a current board member, I am proud of the work that has been completed to better our community,” the candidate said.
Mrs. DeVane has worked in education since 2010, serving in a variety of school districts and teaching diverse groups of students. That experience, the candidate said, has provided valuable insight into preparing students for success in college, careers and beyond.
In addition to work in education, Mrs. DeVane has remained active in community service through the local Beta Sigma Phi organization, previously served as president of the Swainsboro Primary School PTO, and currently serves as vice chair of education for the Georgia Youth Science and Technology Center.
The candidate said the decision to seek reelection is based on a commitment to student achievement and community growth.
“I believe that a successful public school district is essential to the future of not only students, but the entire community,” the candidate said.
If reelected, the District 5 representative said priorities will continue to include advocating for all students, promoting community engagement, supporting safe and positive learning environments, and celebrating student growth across the district.
“This community deserves a school board that will best represent your interests, and our children deserve an educational system that will prepare and inspire them to be successful,” the candidate said.
“I am happy to give back to a community that has given so much to me,” Mrs. DeVane said.
