Elder Walter Travett, 55

Posted

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Elder Walter Travett, 55, on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Elder Walter “Charlie” Travett was born July 26, 1965 to the parentage of the late John L., and Rosie Lee Travett in Emanuel County, Georgia. He was nurtured and raised by his maternal grandparents, the late Elder Jessie and Mother Viccie Davis in Kite. Travett graduated from Swainsboro High School with the class of 1984. He was a comedian in his own right. He was an amazing cook, musician, songwriter, and avid gardener. Travett was a phenomenal, commercial truck driver. He drove until his health took a major turn. On December 6, 1997, he married the most beautiful girl in “his world,” Linda Kay Stone of Swainsboro. It was definitely a “’till death do us part” relationship. Travett accepted Christ as his Savior 30-plus years ago. He served faithfully under the leadership of his pastor/mother-in-law, the late Bishop Mary S. McKinnon. His love and respect for her was truly impeccable. After several years of faithful service, Travett was ordained a deacon. He served as a minister and was then ordained as an Elder in the Temple of Grace Holiness Church of Swainsboro. He was vice-president of the Brotherhood Department (Sons of Grace), president of the Outreach Ministry, and assistant minister of music. Travett was the founder of the LKS Gospel Singers and the TOG Ensemble. He was a son, brother, uncle, cousin, and nephew, but to so many others, he was Pops, Dad, and Papa. Definitely too many to name, but his love for family and loved ones was genuine and true. In July 2007, he began his dialysis journey, due to FSGS. In July 2011, he received a kidney transplant from Teaira P. Benjamin, whom he called his “angel”. In 2014, FSGS struck again and attacked his new kidney. Travett’s journey on dialysis began again. After his health took a downward spiral, he received an offer Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at East Georgia Regional Hospital that he could not refuse. He took his flight to a land where no sickness dwells. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, as well as Sam and Lucille Travett.

Survivors include his wife, Apostle Linda Stone-Travett of Swainsboro, GA; his adopted son, Jody M. Warner; spiritual daughter, Min. Miriam Newton; a plethora of godchildren; three brothers, Johnny C. (Fahnesia) and James Travett of Swainsboro, and John (Lashun) Travett of Glenbernie, MD; three sisters, Rosita G. Travett of Bryans Road, MD, Evette Travett of Suitland, MD, and Charmette Travett of Washington, DC; sisters-in-law, Apostle Alice (Elder Dessie) Davis, of Swainsboro and Roger (Sandy) Stone of Decatur, GA; brother-in-law, Dea. Robert Warner of Swainsboro; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
