In celebration of the creation of the American Constitution, East Georgia State College will sponsor a lecture and discussion on the Constitution on Tuesday, September 14, from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. The guest lecturer is Dr. Roger Byrd, Associate Professor of Social Sciences and Director of Prison Programs at Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, Georgia. The lecture is entitled “The Constitution and Civil Liberties: Reconsidering Criminal Justice and Education.” EGSC will commemorate the 232nd anniversary of the acceptance of the U.S. Constitution with this lecture and discussion, which will take place via Zoom technology and will be livestreamed for the community to watch on YouTube by visiting https://youtu.be/OS9IpInn5pw.

Dr. Byrd also served more than two decades in the Georgia State House of Representatives. Dr. Byrd’s talk is closely related to his new publication, Sisyphus No More: The Case for Prison Education, published by Rowman and Littlefield Books:

“With our current constitutional challenges, it is vital for the world’s leading democracy to remember our roots and discuss our Constitution. EGSC welcomes our whole community to share in these conversations,” said Dr. Lee Cheek, Professor of Political Science at EGSC.

To watch this special event, members of the community can visit https://youtu.be/OS9IpInn5pw to view the livestream, while EGSC faculty, staff and students will receive an email outlining how to access the Zoom broadcast.

We look forward to enjoying this special presentation with all our community!
