East Georgia State College (EGSC) hosted their Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. Celebration Thursday, January 19. The event was open to the public and held in the
auditorium of the Luck F. Gambrell Building on the Swainsboro campus of EGSC. After the
event, a candlelight vigil was held outside the Gambrell Building.
The evening began with Anthony Walker, President of the African American Union Club,
welcoming the guests to the event followed by the invocation given by Mr. Donald Jenkins,
EGSC Foundation Board Member. During the event, there were performances by Sounds of
Gabriel and Asia Jennings who performed a skit for the audience.
The guest speaker for the event was Jonathan Hampton. The event concluded with remarks
from EGSC’s President, Dr. David Schecter, and a candlelight vigil outside the Gambrell
Building while Sounds of Gabriel performed.
EGSC would like to thank the many people involved with the celebration and the
community members who were a part of the event!
