East Georgia State College’s Athletic Department recently announced the addition of men and

women’s tennis and cross country to their athletic program. The two teams will be added to the

already existing softball, baseball, and men and women’s basketball teams. Athletic Director and Head Softball Coach Charles Wimberly announced that EGSC was approved by the University System of Georgia (USG) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) to add the two new sports programs to the college for Fall 2022.

“It has been a vision of mine since returning to EGSC to grow the program and the college, and we have made tremendous strides in the right direction to growing our sports programs and college,” stated Wimberly. “The addition of two new teams shows we are growing. As an alumnus of the college, you always want to see your home college do well, and to see it grow with the addition of students is one of the most important ways to see that growth. Our community, college presidents, staff, faculty, and students are very excited about this addition to EGSC. In only 12 years, we have come so far with our sports programs, and this addition only proves that the Bobcats are on the rise.”

EGSC recently refurbished its tennis courts with new surface and netting in the Summer of 2021, along with revamping the already beautiful cross-country course.

The Bobcats have fielded four NJCAA Collegiate Sports Teams since 2009-2010, playing in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Regional Conference. The college began with an average of 86 student-athletes participating in softball, baseball and men and women’s basketball; however, in Fall of 2021 the Bobcats added JV sports to all four of the existing varsity teams increasing the student-athlete average from 86 to 177. With the addition of tennis and cross country, there will be approximately 225 student-athletes on campus at EGSC-Swainsboro. The athletic program has brought in over 1,000 student-athletes to EGSC over the past 12 seasons.

The Bobcats have experienced much success in their brief existence winning the Men’s GCAA Regional Basketball Championship in 2013 and runner-up in 2021; Baseball Conference Championships in 2017, 2018, 2019; Softball Conference Runner-Up in 2017 and Final Four appearances in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021; and Women’s Basketball Conference runner-up in 2018, and final four appearances from 2018 thru 2021.
