ECI celebrates Literacy Month with reading, fun, and school-wide participation

In March, ECI celebrated Literacy Month with activities designed to promote reading and enthusiasm among students. The month began with a successful Literacy Night, uniting students, families, and staff for an evening focused on reading. The event included food, games, and door prizes, and families enjoyed celebrating literacy together. Strong attendance made it a memorable start to the month.

Throughout March, students participated in themed literacy activities each day of the week.

On Mondays, book trailers played on cafeteria televisions during lunch, introducing students to new books and genres. Tuesdays featured lunchtime trivia, giving students an opportunity to test their knowledge and enjoy friendly competition. Every Wednesday, students participated in “Drop Everything and Read,” taking time during the school day to pause and enjoy a good book.

On Thursdays, students voted in the library’s March Madness Book Bracket via Google Classroom, comparing favorite books and selecting titles to advance. Fridays featured a “Question of the Day” during morning announcements, with classes calling in answers to add a fun, competitive element.

Each week of Literacy Month focused on a different genre, helping students explore a wide variety of books and discover new interests.

The month wrapped up with a Reading Challenge. Finishers earned a special S’mores Celebration, marking their achievement and books read.

Literacy Month provided numerous opportunities for reading and participation. Schoolwide and family activities emphasized literacy and encouraged students to continue reading beyond March.
