Eighth-grade students from Emanuel County Institute (ECI) recently took a memorable field trip to the Georgia State Capitol, where they witnessed our state government in action. During the morning portion of their visit, students observed live proceedings in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, as well as committee meetings, gaining a firsthand look at how laws are discussed and passed. The trip provided a real-world connection to what they’ve been learning in the classroom.
A highlight of the trip was the Senate’s recognition of members of the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office with a signed proclamation, making the experience especially meaningful for students. Students also had the opportunity to meet Butch Parrish and Dr. Ben Watson, who shared insights about their roles in state government. Senator Watson, a graduate of ECI, offered words of encouragement and reminded students of the importance of civic involvement and education.
After a morning at the Capitol, students enjoyed an afternoon exploring the World of Coca-Cola, where they learned about the iconic brand's history and sampled beverages from around the world.
The trip gave ECI students a deeper appreciation for government and inspired future civic engagement.
