The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, October 19, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 36 in attendance. Beta Sigma Phi provided an outstanding breakfast consisting of sausage egg casserole, cut-up fruit and muffins and Shari Watt provided orange juice, grape juice, cranberry juice, apple juice, and coffee. The speaker was the Emanuel County School Superintendent, Dr. Denise Warnock.

Dr. Warnock talked about the school program EDGE (Educate, Develop, Grow and Emanuel), the College & Career Academy. This program provides for students at Swainsboro High School, Emanuel County Institute and David Emanuel Academy to connect their education today to their careers tomorrow by attending Southeastern Technical College, Swainsboro Campus two hours a day and their high school to rest of the day. It allows students that are not going to college to pick a trade that they are going into and most likely they will make more money than a college graduate.

Chair Johnny then called on Veteran Terry Reynolds who gave a report on the five deer hunts that the Wounded Warriors have been on so far this Fall and have harvested nearly 30 deer on these hunts.

Everyone is invited to the special dedication of the new Veterans Wall on November 7, at 11 a.m. at the Veterans and 1st Responders Memorial Park, and the dedication of the "Liberty Tree monument" by the Wiregrass Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution at the same time.

Veterans fed grilled hotdogs to all the participants at the 250th Emanuel County Historical Preservation Society’s 250th event on Saturday, October 17, at the Museum across from the fairgrounds. The Skunk Brigade had six cannons that fired starting at 10 a.m. on the hour until 4 p.m. and also had their Travelling Trunks set up.
