Downtown Swainsboro celebrates Christmas with multiple events

Posted

Downtown Swainsboro was full of holiday spirit last Thursday evening as the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) hosted its first Holiday Drive-In Movie. Held in the new Emanuel County parking lot at the former location of Schwabe Motor Co., the event offered a double feature including “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.” As cars filed in, their occupants enjoyed drive-thru visits with Santa before stopping in with the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club to pick up popcorn and cotton candy provided by the club. The Swainsboro Jaycees assisted with parking cars for the movie, and the Swainsboro-Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce took photos of attendees with Santa.
Due to having a limited number of spaces in the event area, and to ensure that everyone enjoyed an unobstructed view of the movie screen, spaces for the free event were offered by reservation only. The event proved popular, as all spaces were reserved in just a day. With the success of this event, the DDA  hopes to offer similar activities in the future.
The Drive-In Movie kicked off Downtown Swainsboro’s Holly Jolly Holidays, which includes a great schedule of holiday shopping events and other fun surprises throughout the month of December. In addition to the movie event, the Shabulous Christmas Extravaganza and Wrens Southern Ladies and Gents’ Holly Jolly Holidays events were held last Thursday. Both events offered discounts, sales and giveaways, with the Wrens event including visits with Santa and pop-up shops from Rolling Monkey, The Classic Monogram and All the Fixin’s.

The holiday retail events continued through the weekend with open house events at Stewart’s Jewelers and Custom Furniture and Flooring (featuring a pop-up shop from The Doodle Collective). Upcoming shopping events scheduled as part of Downtown Swainsboro’s Holly Jolly Holidays include Central Georgia Clinic of Chiropractic’s Small Business Holiday Open House on Dec. 11, and the Main Street Market’s Holly Jolly Holidays event on Dec. 19.
