Department of Natural Resources approved two-day hunt

Posted

Did I read that right? Yep, for the first time ever, the Department of Natural Resources approved a unique early season deer opportunity in all Georgia counties except 13. All hunters were allowed to harvest an antlerless deer for a two-day hunt on Saturday and Sunday, October 4 and 5. Hunters will skip a week and then the forearms season will start on Saturday, October 18. This year’s bag limit is 12. Ten must be antlerless and two antlered.

The primary purpose of the two-day hunt was to manage deer population and to protect agricultural interests. The early hunt provided an opportunity for hunters to harvest venison and contribute to the hunters for the hungry program to help feed needy families.

Emanuel County has four deer processing facilities: Quality Deer Processing in Midville, The Deer Barn in Covena, Best Deer Processing in Twin City and Triple Cross Deer Processing in Kite. For the two-day hunt, their combined total was 97 harvested antlerless deer.
