On Monday morning, July 24, 2023, Wiregrass Chapter member Compatriot John Derden traveled to Statesboro to present his program to the Bulloch County Historical Society at their monthly luncheon held at the Pittman Park Church Social Hall. With over 100 people in attendance, Compatriot John presented his program on the Battle at Brier Creek that was held on March 3, 1779. The battlefield is located in Screven County, just 15 miles northeast of Sylvania, just off Brannan's Bridge Road. John is a member of the Brier Creek Revolutionary War Battlefield Association, Inc. which is a 501 C3 corporation. The Association is maintaining the battlefield in cooperation with the DNR and the Tuckahoe Plantation and owns the battlefield which spans over 15,000 acres. Compatriot John's presentation also included slides and maps. The association is building a large sign at the entrance to the battlefield and is preparing the memorial to place a large flagpole which will fly the Betsy Ross 13-star flag. To help pay for the flagpole, the association is selling 4"x 8" and 8"x 16" pavers. For more information, please contact Treasurer Sherry Christopher at 229-315-0960.
