The Wiregrass Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution, held its monthly meeting at McKinney Pond Restaurant on Thursday, March 12, at 6:30 p.m. With President Steve Burke presiding, they had 15 in attendance including guests. President Steve opened the meeting with a welcome and asked 2nd Vice President Gary Mason to open with a prayer and Registrar Dess Smith III led the Pledge to the U.S. Flag and the Pledge to the SAR. They then enjoyed a great buffet meal of shrimp, corn dodgers, French fries and all the trimmings. President Steve called on Compatriot John Derden for a report on the Brier Creek Battlefield. President Steve then gave the treasurers report. Registrar Dess Smith III presented the Sgt.-at-Arms Watson Mosley with three Chapter Flag Streamers that the Chapter earned for President Steve Burke presenting their chapter's wreath at these events: Elijah Clarke Heroes at the Hornets’ Nest event, 247th Anniversary Battle at Kettle Creek event and the 247th Anniversary Battle at Brier Creek event. President Steve then called on Registrar Dess Smith to introduce the speaker, Compatriot Hu Daughtry. His presentation was on "She buried them on Bull Creek". After Hu's outstanding presentation, President Steve presented Hu with a "Certificate of Appreciation". President Steve then talked about their past month's events and upcoming events. The main event coming up is the four Patriot grave marking and Frederica Naval Battle on St. Simons Island April 17 and 18. On March 27, the Brier Creek Artillery will participate in a canon night fire in Alma.
2nd VP Gary then lead the SAR Recessional and closed out with the benediction.
