The July meeting of the Emanuel County Board of Commissioners was held Monday evening, July 20, 2026, at the Emanuel County Courthouse. With all commissioners present, Chairman Jim Sherrod called the meeting to order. A short meeting agenda began with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance after which Public Comments were heard.
Jessie Meadows was first to address the board with issues dealing with land and water resources in our area and the need for these vital components to be protected from harmful commercial development and provided adequate stewardardship management. Meadows asked the commission to consider ideas such as initiating the appointment of citizen advisory boards to assist in the effort. The second speaker was Frank Wimberly who spoke in support of governmental involvement to control any further proliferation of Data Centers in our county as well as any other enterprises that would be high-energy and high-water resource users. Wimberly inquired about any further activity from the board in this area and also asked for any additional information on updates on referendums or other legal action to discourage development of any business operations that might be environmentally detrimental to land, air and water resources of the county.
Following this, minutes were presented and unanimously approved of the July 13, 2026, workshop and the June 16, 2026, regular meeting. Moving on to new business, the commissioners discussed the acquisition of land related to an on-going project in the Twin City area. County Administrator Singletary informed commissioners that a parcel had been identified for purchase to establish a substation for EMS service in the Twin City area of Emanuel County. Chairman Sherrod and Administrator Guy Singletary advised that this would create more efficiency of service and better utilization of existing equipment for medical services in that portion of the county. Following discussion, commissioners voted unanimously to acquire the property. In final business, Administrator Singletary gave a quick status update on the Coleman County Office Building which is scheduled to be under major renovation of interior spaces beginning August 1, 2026. The Administrator also informed members that the first county recreation department swimming pool will be moving toward completion within 60 days. The renovation of the Recreation Complex Gymnasium is also nearing completion, and the resurfacing of the main parking lot will begin next week. At this point, the agenda was complete and the meeting was adjourned.
