Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. Darrell L. “Big D” Riner, age

61, of Swainsboro, on Monday, September 13, 2021, at Landmark Hospital in Savannah. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 25, at 11 a.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Harrell officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, September 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Mitch Hall, Todd Hooks, Lamar Coleman, Ben Thompson, Donnie Wayne Fields, and Scotty McElroy.

Darrell was born February 7, 1960, in Swainsboro, to the late Charles Byron and Kathryn Smith Riner. He was a sales clerk at the Kwik Shop. Darrell enjoyed dirt track racing, was an avid Kyle Bush fan, and enjoyed good gospel and bluegrass music. Although, Darrell “Big D” had the grizzly bear exterior, he had the heart of a teddy bear. He loved a big glass of McDonalds Tea, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. Darrell was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Riner is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Cynthia “Cindy” Hutcheson Riner; and brother, Ronnie Dean Riner.

Survivors include his daughter, Kimberly Riner Cox (Bennie) of Rockledge; son, Robert Elliott Riner of Swainsboro; sister, Wanda Bush (Jimmy) of Swainsboro; brother, Charles Riner (Pennie) of Nunez; grandchildren, Amber Lee Cox, Charlee Delaine Riner, and Leythe Daniel Riner; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended family.
