The Governor David Emanuel – Adam Brinson Chapter recently held its monthly meeting. The focus of the program was to commemorate the lives of deceased members of the chapter and highlight their impact on the organization and community.
Chaplain Martha Cobb identified the members as Rebecca Dennis Hill, who joined the DAR in 1987 with Benjamin Chapin as her patriot; Linda Cowart Talmadge, who became a member in 1977 with Jacob Higginbotham as her Patriot; Delaine Garnto Maglioli who joined in 2015 with John Webb as her Patriot; and Mary Ellen Smith, who became a member in 2008 with John Mann and Colesby Smith as her Patriots. A white carnation was placed in a vase at the reading of each name to honor their past service to the organization.
Members took turns sharing fond memories of these ladies and their impact on the national lineage society, community, and their appreciation for historic preservation. In addition, a donation was made in memory of each of them to the Meadow Garden, which was the home of George Walton, signer of the Declaration of Independence. The house is a historic museum owned by the Georgia State Society Daughters of the American Revolution and is on the National Register of Historic Places in Augusta.
