Swainsboro City Council held their regular scheduled meeting Monday, December 1 at 6 p.m. at Swainsboro City Hall, with all Council members present. The meeting opened with Pastor Brad McKenzie of Jesus Saves Church bringing the invocation, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes from the regular meeting on November 3 and the special called meeting on November 13 were approved 6-0.
In old business, Council considered the purchase of a fire truck. Council member Foster made a motion to table the purchasing of the fire truck until the next meeting. The motion passed 6-0.
In new business, Council considered the Martin Luther King Day parade route request. Council member Stafford made a motion to approve the parade route. This also passed 6-0.
The next item on the agenda was the hiring of the city attorney. Council person Johnny Ray Stafford made a motion to hire current attorney Jon Levis, with a second by Council person Julian Sconyers. The motion failed with a 2-4 vote. Council members Greg Quarterman, Lafonda Kelly, Roddrigus Foster and Bobbie Collins voted against.
Council then voted to table the landscaping and maintenance request for proposal. The motion passed 6-0.
Council considered the January 03, 2026, Downtown Get Down road closures. Council approved the road closures with a 6-0 vote.
Three items were added to the agenda for the evening. The first was code enforcer training. Council member Foster made a motion to enter into a contract with Code Consult 360, LLC, to provide code enforcement training for the code enforcer. This passed 6-0. The second item was the hiring of the city auditor. Council member Sconyers made a motion to approve Lanier, Deal, Proctor & Bloser as the city auditors for another year. This also passed 6-0. The third item was to go into executive session to discuss real estate and employment negotiations. No action was taken in executive session.
