The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at Smith's Canoochee Store in Canoochee, Monday morning, April 13, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding we had 33 in attendance.
Smith's Canoochee Store fed the Veterans a fantastic breakfast meal including eggs, grits, biscuits, sausage gravy, bacon, linked sausage, sausage patties, pancakes and all the trimmings. They also provided orange juice, soft drinks, tea, and coffee. The food was outstanding, and we want to thank her for doing this for the Veterans.
Smith's Canoochee Store is owned by Renea Smith and she has been operating it for approximately seven years. Her employees are Shandy Hodges and Hali Roberson. They did a great job serving us. They announced that every 3rd Saturday, Smith's Canoochee Store will be serving a "All you can eat Breakfast" from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. Come out and join them for a great breakfast.
Chair Johnny talked to us about our upcoming Veterans Cup Golf Tournament and the selling of our "hole" sponsorships.
Chair Johnny then talked about the 40 service members that the Veterans are flying a U.S. Flag on the front fence at the Veterans and 1st Responders Memorial Park at the corner of U.S. Highway 80 and Georgia Highway 57.
We also added two new 250th Anniversary flags on poles at the Veterans Park entrance last month. The Veterans 8'X12' U.S. Flag is flying on our new 40' flagpole.
Chair Johnny also talked to us about our oldest veteran, age 101, Doyle John Tatum a World War II veteran that stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, that passed away on April 2 and the outstanding attendance at his funeral service at the Hawhammock Baptist Church by our veterans.
