Colston presents program to DAR

The Governor David Emanuel-Adam Brinson DAR held its monthly meeting at the Sudie A. Fulford center. The highlight of the meeting was the focus on women’s health. Mary Elizabeth Woods, Regent, introduced the speaker, Registered Nurse Connie Colston, of the Emanuel County Health Department.

Colston provided a very informative program on dementia. With rural areas often struggling with local resources, she discussed the Georgia Memory Net, a statewide program dedicated to the early diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Its goal is to create connections between patients and care partners and community support. The Georgia Memory Net exists to speed the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and related dementias in symptomatic individuals. Not having a diagnosis limits access to appropriate care and resources that can improve the quality of life for affected Georgians. Through managed telehealth appointments, their services can reach rural locations with limited resources.

Colston reported that the Emanuel County Health Department is one of the Memory Assessment Clinic locations in Georgia for this program. This partnership will provide access to the tools needed for diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and long-term support.
