At the August 2026 meeting of the City Commission, Mayor Matt Donaldson announced Twin City had received a new grant award of $1 million to complete road resurfacing projects. The grant award comes from the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank (GTIB).

With the latest grant award, Twin City will complete the resurfacing of all roads in Twin City over the past 10 years.

Mayor Donaldson said, “Since I took office 11 years ago, I’ve been focused on finding funding sources to improve our infrastructure. Our roads were in a state of disrepair. With this newest grant award, we will complete the resurfacing of all roads in Twin City.”

The (20) roads to be resurfaced are the following: Old Metter Road, 4th Avenue, Park Street, Apple Avenue, Cherry Avenue, Plum Avenue, Carl Durden Road, Mathis Street, Casa Drive, Lee Street, A Street, B Street, City Shop Road, Gillikin Street, 2nd Avenue, Circle Drive, Brown Avenue, Coleman Road, Granddaughter Avenue, and Colston Lane.

This newest grant award comes on the heels of previous grant awards in 2026.

At the May 2026 meeting of the City Commission, Mayor Matt Donaldson announced Twin City had received approximately $2.5 million in funding for infrastructure projects.

The first award was from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority for $695,000.00 for the installation of a comprehensive generator system for the city water and sewer systems. Mayor Donaldson said, “This funding, which is in the form of a 100% forgivable loan, will allow the city to be prepared for the next natural disaster. We will be able to continue providing essential services to our citizens when they need them the most.”

The second award was from the Georgia Department of Transportation for $1,800,000.00 for an extension of the city sidewalk system. Mayor Donaldson said, “This funding will allow us to extend our current sidewalk system to Emanuel County Institute. This will increase walkability and access to our citizens and students. This grant funding will be a phased project with engineering work being done over 2026-2027 and proposed construction beginning in 2029.”

In conclusion, Mayor Donaldson said, “For 2026, the City of Twin City has received $3.5 million in grant awards to improve the infrastructure in Twin City. This work will be done without a burden on the city taxpayers of Twin City. We are proud of recent success and look forward to completing the projects over the next year.”
