At the May 2026 meeting of the City Commission, Mayor Matt Donaldson announced Twin City had received approximately $2.5 million in funding for infrastructure projects.

The first award was from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority for $695,000.00 for the installation of a comprehensive generator system for the city water and sewer systems. Mayor Donaldson said, “This funding, which is in the form of a 100% forgivable loan, will allow the city to be prepared for the next natural disaster. We will be able to continue providing essential services to our citizens when they need them the most.”

The second award was from the Georgia Department of Transportation for $1,800,000.00 for an extension of the city sidewalk system. Mayor Donaldson said, “This funding will allow us to extend our current sidewalk system to Emanuel County Institute. This will increase walkability and access to our citizens and students. This grant funding will be a phased project with engineering work being done over 2026-2027 and proposed construction beginning in 2029.”

Mayor Donaldson said in conclusion, “We are always looking for additional grant funding to improve Twin City. By accessing this grant funding, it takes burden off the city operating budgets. We hope to have additional grant award announcements later this year. Stay tuned!”
