The regular scheduled meeting of the Swainsboro Mayor and City Council was held June 1 at City Hall. Following a prayer of Invocation from Pastor Rashan Gibbons, the Pledge of Allegiance was given.

During the public comments section of the meeting, Rita Faulkner addressed council with appreciation for the recent paving in her neighborhood. She also questioned council about the lack of activity regarding clean up near a park in the city. Julia Carswell commended council on the progress of paving in her neighborhood and had questions concerning needed clean up in other areas.

Following the presentation and approval of the minutes of the May 4 meeting, council took up several issues under New Business. Council was addressed by Project Manager Chris Morton and other representatives of Clearwater Solutions who were present. The council was informed of the Wastewater and Water Gold Award recently given to Clearwater for continuing excellence in provision and maintenance of water utility operations for the City of Swainsboro. This is the first Water Gold Award they have received since 2019 and 4th consecutive year for the Wastewater Gold Award. These awards are given for perfect treatment compliance for an entire year through the GAWP (Georgia Association of Water Professionals).

Mr. Morton also announced Maddox Robertson as the winner of the Clearwater High School Scholarship recently awarded at Swainsboro High School.

Next under new business was the discussion of the recent purchase of vehicles for use in city operations.

Concluding new business was the discussion of allocation of funding for resurfacing various local streets. Council approved the expenditure of Local Road Assistance Funds provided for this from the State of Georgia.

This exhausted the agenda and the meeting was adjourned.
