Chief Magistrate Judge Dawn Braddy has announced she will retire effective December 29, 2023 due to health issues.
“As many of you know, I have been having health issues for the past two years. Due to these issues, I feel it is best for me to retire to take care of my health. I would like to take this time to tell you all thank you for your support, encouragement and friendship. I have enjoyed the last 27 years serving the citizens of Emanuel County – from the Tax Commissioner’s Office to my current role as Chief Magistrate Judge. I have had the privilege to work with and meet some great people through the years and am proud to call them my friend,” said Braddy. “I pray that all of Emanuel County will continue to grow and prosper.”
According to the Qualifications and Disqualifications for Holding State or County Elective Office in Georgia Guide, a vacancy in the office of chief magistrate is filled by majority vote of the Superior Court Judges of the county for the remainder of the unexpired term. Superior Court Judges Bobby Reeves and Tommy Smith will make the appointment at a later date. We will provide updated information as it becomes available.
