The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, June 22, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, there were 34 in attendance. The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro provided an outstanding breakfast consisting of grits, sausage, banana's, fresh cut up fruit, and all the trimmings, and Shari Watt provided the orange juice, grape juice, cranberry juice, apple juice and coffee. The food was outstanding and we want to thank the Kiwanis Club and President Dianna Wedincamp for doing this for the Veterans. Chair Johnny introduced the Chairman of the Emanuel County Commission Jim Sherrod who talked to us about last week’s Emanuel County Commissioners meeting. Jim talked to us about the five that spoke before the commission and what they talked about; the purchase of a third EMS ambulance, Data Centers in Emanuel County and the recent new property assessments that were sent to the citizens of Emanuel County. He also discussed the approval of moving ahead with the reconditioning of the John C. Coleman Hotel building as the new commissioner’s office building. Also, Chair Johnny talked to us about the Veterans Wall that will soon be erected at the Veterans and First Responders Memorial Park. The nearly 100 that were on the old floor around the flagpole will be placed on the new Veterans wall at no cost to the original purchasers. Prices for the new granite bricks on the Veterans Wall is being worked out and will soon be announced.
